MOT Testing
All vehicles that are three or more years old require an MOT to be carried out annually that looks at the safety of your car and its emissions. The MOT test covers several areas from lights to emissions, to seatbelts, to brakes – many of the things that would compromise your safety or the environment.
MOT testing can only be carried out by technicians in garages that are authorised by the Ministry of Transport.
To be able to perform MOTs, the person must be a skilled technician with at least 4 years experience repairing the types of vehicles they wish to test and have a full driving licence for the vehicle class they wish to test. They also need to be at least 20 years old and have no ‘unspent’ convictions for criminal offences connected with vehicle testing, the motor trade or involving acts of violence or intimidation.
